This video is kinda cool because it's Vin Diesel breakdancing, but it's REALLY cool because you can pick up some sweet dance moves from the directions.
Hello, my name is Ethan Thompson and I teach media and cultural studies at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. I've also been a research and teaching fellow with the Peabody Awards program at the University of Georgia. My research focuses on comedy and television culture, both historical and contemporary. This blog is my catch-all site for my own not completely cooked, not completely random thoughts about TV, movies, and whatever else I find out there I'm interested in that warrants more than a Facebook post. You can find links to my books below, or click on my Academia.edu or LinkedIn profile to find links to some of my published articles.

How to Watch Television
I edited this collection of 40 original essays on different TV shows with Jason Mittell. Lots of great writing from an amazing list of contributors. Check out its Amazon page and "look inside" by clicking on the cover. While you're at it, visit the book's Facebook page where you will be able to find people sharing ideas for using the book in the classroom.
Parody and Taste...Now in Paperback.
Ten years in the making, this is my cultural history of (like the title says) postwar television and parody, including Mad Magazine, Playboy, Ernie Kovacs, Oscar Levant, Sick Comedy.
Satire TV
That's Stephen Colbert holding the book I co-edited with Jonathan Gray and Jeffrey P. Jones. Naturally, we put him on the cover. Includes a comprehensive introduction to television satire, my chapter on South Park, and much more...
