Truth-Typo

There are several different advertisements on television that protest against the dangers of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. Since the millenium, viewers have been watching a series of commercials aimed at giving their audience knowledge about the dangers of cigarettes and the truth tobacco companies try to hide. This particular commercial has a catchy tune that you find yourself humming along to. It also gives you important information that persuades you that smoking kills a dramatic number of people each year. We chose this ad because it also stimulated our group visually more with the use of animation, which we also imagined could be used to deter younger children from smoking. There are also younger actors starring in the ads to appeal to a younger crowd. The commercial is set in a very public place: in the middle of the street a major tobacco company stands on, and there are always people watching-usually with stunned expressions on their faces.

We decided to compare the truth commercials to other ads that try to dissuade people, especially those of a younger age, from using drugs or alcohol or smoking cigarettes. The ads that do that are the "My Anti-Drug," and "Living Above the Influence" commercials. Their main way to get their point across is to use dramatic scenes to truly show the dangers of drugs. The difference with the truth ads and this video is that instead of trying to scare you out of smoking or doing drugs, they give you important information and facts that make you think-while also entertaining you with catchy song and dance. This ad still sends out an important message but also leaves you humming a tune the rest of the day.

This commercial was very interesting to me because of the way it was presented. It was not the usually truth commercial that may show millions of body bags of deaths cause from smoking. I like the way it did the whole singing thing and try to act like the facts were just maybe a misprint when they knew the whole time the real truth.

This PSA announcement is great because not only is it informative but it also entertaining. It delivers the truth about smoking and how it is bad for,but also how the cigarette companies are lying to the public. It goes beyond the traditional standard of PSA and makes you listen to what is being said.

This is a very unique way of using a PSA announcement! It is very cynical and catchy! The campaign is trying to make the audience realize that, how can cigarette companies put that information on their boxes and still sell the product..."Must be a Typo!"

I really dig this commercial. I wonder if I can get this tune on my cell phone...jajajaja

These PSA are so catchy and fun, while being informative. I liked how they went into this fantasy of everything just being a misprint when in reality we all know the truth. It's funny that the tabacco companies are really releasing statements like "oh it's just a typo."

I think this commercial, as well as all the other "Sunny Side of Truth" commercials, are interesting because they add an element of humor to a sensitive subject. It presents the facts in humorous way. Therefore, the viewer finds themselves laughing and absorbing the information whether or not they agree with the position the advertisment is taking.

I thought this commercial was very entertaining and it also makes you think. They are trying to advise you that cigarette companies won't face the truth that they are the cause of over 5 million people's deaths. A great way to catch someones's attention!

This "sunny" commercial is a very innovative way to show that not only are cigarettes bad for you, but the executives selling them know the facts and just do not care. It appeals to its target audience (the younger generation) with song and dance, but it also points out that the executives are knowingly selling an incredibly harmful product with no regard for their consumers.

This PSA announcement is actually my favorite from all of them. This one differs from the others in a way that it uses humor and almost sarcasm to inform the viewers of the truth of cigarette companies. They used a catchy tune and thoughtful lyrics to really catch the viewers attention. It was very entertaining while informative as well. "Must be a Typo!!" ha ha

This commercial makes me laugh. I think it was a great public service announcement because it seems like it would be very effective. It is entertaining as well as informative and people love to be entertained so why not throw some facts in there and get educated? I also agree with what Bethany said in class about how because it has a catchy tune and they present the information in a unique way, we are more likely to remember the facts they give us.
